The Rhino Cause

Habitat For Rhino was founded in 2014, they started with 5 White rhinos. With ten babies born into the family since, they are now safeguarding 13 white rhinos in a vast wilderness secret location in Namibia. I am so proud of this project, it was started by my family and especially my fantastic mama who founded and started it. Our Rhinos have been thriving in their wild landscape, and they have won several prestigious international conservation awards. In the past ten years, it has been a pleasure watching our wild family grow. Unfortunately, in this time one baby, our little Capricorn, didn’t make it and died of natural causes. But, even more devastatingly, in October 2022, we joined an alarming statistic of rhino poaching, losing our first-ever rhino to this vile and unfounded trade.

Our beloved seven-year-old young bull Kirby was found early one morning, his body wholly punctured with small calibre bullets that are designed to blow up in the body; they then finished him off with a 375 bullet in his chest and removed his horn with surgical precision. The poachers were highly seasoned professionals and covered up all their tracks well. After intensive forensics and investigations by the Namibian police department and wildlife department, luckily, the poachers were apprehended and arrested some months later.

If rhino poaching persists at the rate it is currently going, the Rhino population of the world will be in serious decline in 10 years.

Habitat for rhino have an extensive anti poaching unit and operation, that work around the clock day and night to monitor and protect these ancient warriors.
